Institutions of Islamic Law is an international peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality scholarship on the governance, development, transformation, and operation of Islamic legal institutions across diverse jurisdictions and socio-legal contexts. The journal provides an international forum for original research examining the institutions, authorities, and governance mechanisms responsible for the interpretation, administration, implementation, regulation, and development of Islamic law.
The journal welcomes doctrinal, empirical, socio-legal, comparative, historical, interdisciplinary, and policy-oriented research that advances the understanding of Islamic legal institutions through institutional, governance, and public policy perspectives. By placing institutions at the centre of legal inquiry, the journal seeks to bridge classical Islamic legal thought with contemporary institutional practice and contribute to scholarly debates on the evolving role of Islamic legal institutions in addressing contemporary legal, social, economic, political, and technological challenges.

Institutions of Islamic Law is published biannually, with two issues released each year in April and October. The journal publishes articles exclusively in English under an open-access publishing model to maximise the global dissemination, visibility, accessibility, and impact of scholarly research.
